West Virginia University is leading one of the nation’s largest investments in regional innovation.
The Resilient Energy Technology and Infrastructure Consortium, led by WVU in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University and more than 60 regional organizations, has received more than $320 million in public and private funding through the National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines program. The initiative will accelerate advanced manufacturing, strengthen grid security, expand AI-enabled energy technologies and create new workforce opportunities across Appalachia.

The guide encourages travelers to explore the people, places and experiences that make Almost Heaven a favorite destination throughout the year.
3 – From WV EXPLORER – Energy innovation comes to Appalachia
A new research initiative aims to make Appalachia a national leader in the technologies powering tomorrow’s economy.
The $321 million Resilient Energy Technology and Infrastructure Consortium will support research into advanced energy systems, resilient infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing. Supporters say the long-term effort will attract investment, strengthen regional industries and prepare the next generation of workers while positioning Appalachia as a global center for energy innovation.
