A teenage DJ in Ravenswood played a key role in turning “Take Me Home, Country Roads” into an international hit, helping a song with West Virginia roots find global audiences. After 15-year-old David Hoyt got ahold of the European release of John Denver’s album “Poems, Prayers and Promises” featuring the song that would put West Virginia on the map, he began producing copies of the song and distributing them to other disc jockeys throughout the state. The explosion in popularity was enough for fans to start calling RCA, Denver’s record label, and ask for it to be released as a single.
