1 – From WV EXPLORER – WVU takes wildfire detection to space
West Virginia University researchers are developing an artificial intelligence system that could help satellites detect wildfires earlier and follow them as they spread.
The WildFIRE-DS system analyzes satellite images and automatically adjusts when and where satellites observe a suspected fire. Researchers say the technology could give firefighters earlier warnings and better information across West Virginia’s rugged and heavily forested terrain.

2 – From WV EXPLORER – Putnam County builds an outdoor recreation identity
Putnam County is adding outdoor adventure to a tourism economy already known for youth sports, shopping and community events.
The county’s expanding recreation network includes the 36-mile Meeks Mountain trail system, trails in Eleanor and Winfield, the Walter Nature Preserve and paddling opportunities along the Coal River. Local leaders say these investments support tourism, nearby businesses and a stronger quality of life for residents.

3 – From WV NEWS – Wildlife Center brings frontier history to life
The West Virginia Wildlife Center will host its 10th annual Rendezvous Celebration July 31 and Aug. 1 in French Creek.
Historical reenactors will portray life from precolonial times through the Civil War era. Visitors can explore a living-history encampment and watch demonstrations of blacksmithing, woodworking, beadwork, sewing, cooking and other traditional frontier skills.
