#2 – From WV PRESS – Made in West Virginia takes center stage at Bridge Day
Bridge Day brings thousands of people to the New River Gorge every October.
This year, they’ll also get a chance to discover six West Virginia entrepreneurs. The West Virginia Hive will showcase six client businesses at its booth during the 46th annual Bridge Day on Saturday, October 17. The lineup includes Mariposa Hollow of Glen Morgan, Hinton Outfitters of Hinton, Kraken Glass N Crafts and Sunbeams & Moonshine Creations of Talcott, The Wooly Gorge of Oak Hill and Wild & Untamed Things of Alderson. WV Hive Regional Business Advisor Devon Fitzgerald says every one of those businesses began with an idea. The Hive helps entrepreneurs turn those ideas into sustainable ventures through guidance and support as their businesses grow. Visitors can meet the entrepreneurs and check out their products from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. during Bridge Day. Great views. BASE jumpers. And some pretty cool stuff made right here in West Virginia.
#3 – From WORLD AFFAIRS COUNCIL OF WEST VIRGINIA – Take your West Virginia education around the world
Your college experience may begin in West Virginia.
But part of it could happen almost anywhere in the world. The World Affairs Council of West Virginia has published a new guide to help Mountain State students understand the opportunities available for studying abroad.
Nearly 300,000 American students studied in more than 170 international destinations for academic credit during the 2023-24 school year, with another 33,000 taking part in non-credit international programs. And studying abroad doesn’t necessarily mean leaving for an entire year. Programs can range from a few weeks during the summer to a semester or full academic year. West Virginia students can explore opportunities through institutions including WVU, Marshall, West Virginia State and Bluefield State. Federal aid and scholarship programs may also help make international study more affordable. The payoff goes beyond travel. International study can help students develop language skills, cultural awareness and a broader worldview while preparing for careers in fields ranging from global business to diplomacy and humanitarian work.
West Virginia can be home…and still be your launching point to the world.
