#1 – From WV LIVING – Meet West Virginia’s Incredible Kids
Don’t underestimate West Virginia’s next generation.
WV Living magazine’s 2026 Incredible Kids celebrates dozens of young West Virginians whose kindness, resilience, creativity and service are already making a difference in communities across the state. There’s Avery, an 11-year-old from Harpers Ferry whose letter about her community playground helped launch a complete revitalization effort. She later became the youngest person ever to serve on the town’s Parks and Recreation Committee. Nine-year-old Evie of Summersville created “Evie J Wants to Cake Your Day,” assembling birthday cake kits for food pantries so more kids can have a cake on their special day. And 11-year-old Brianna of Fraziers Bottom volunteers more than 300 hours a year and created “Pennies for Puppies” to raise money for her local animal shelter.
They’re just a few of the young people WV Living is recognizing for creating what the magazine calls waves of change across the Mountain State.

#2 – From MARSHALL UNIVERSITY – Things are getting strange at Marshall
Marshall University’s 2026 Homecoming is going back to the ’80s. And they’ve got the perfect grand marshal.
Joe Chrest, a St. Albans native, 1986 Marshall graduate and star of the hit series Stranger Things, is coming home to lead this year’s festivities.
Chrest plays Ted Wheeler on Stranger Things and has appeared in films including 21 Jump Street, Ant-Man and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. Before heading to Hollywood, he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in directing from Marshall. He’ll lead the Homecoming parade on Friday, September 25, during a week of activities built around the theme “’80s Echoes: Come Back Curious.” The theme celebrates Chrest’s own years at Marshall while borrowing a little inspiration from the nostalgic world of 1980s mysteries that helped make Stranger Things a phenomenon.
Homecoming week runs September 21 through 26, culminating with the Thundering Herd taking on Gardner-Webb.
#3 – From THE DAILY ATHENAEUM – Morgantown’s PRT gets a summer makeover
It’s one of the most recognizable parts of the WVU experience.
And this summer, Morgantown’s Personal Rapid Transit system, better known as the PRT, got a makeover ahead of the fall semester.For generations of Mountaineers, the distinctive PRT cars have been part of everyday life in Morgantown, carrying students between different parts of the WVU campus and helping them navigate a city famous for its hills.With students returning and another academic year beginning, the summer work has the system ready to get back to doing what it does best: moving Mountaineers.
Because in Morgantown, heading back to school sometimes means heading back to the PRT.
