#1 – From WV SBDC – From backyard idea to growing business
Sometimes the best business ideas begin with a personal challenge.
When Jeff and Vicki Wilson grew frustrated loading their heavy fishing kayaks, they decided to build a better solution. Working from a basement workshop in Doddridge County, Jeff designed a prototype that eliminated the need to lift the kayak onto a vehicle. With guidance from the West Virginia Small Business Development Center, the couple patented their invention and launched Kayak Loading Solutions.
Today, their West Virginia-made product is gaining national attention at outdoor shows and helping kayakers spend less time loading their gear and more time on the water. It’s another example of how innovation, entrepreneurship and a little determination can turn an idea into reality.

#2 – From WV METRO NEWS – Record fish makes a splash
West Virginia anglers are rewriting the record book.
This summer, the state record for pumpkinseed sunfish was broken twice in less than three weeks. After a record-setting catch in June, an even larger pumpkinseed was landed just 19 days later, demonstrating the outstanding quality of fishing opportunities found across the Mountain State.
Officials with the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources say record catches like these highlight the state’s healthy fisheries and encourage anglers of all ages to get outdoors and enjoy West Virginia’s lakes and streams.
#3 – From WV EXPLORER – Plum Orchard Lake keeps getting better
One of southern West Virginia’s favorite outdoor destinations continues to grow.
Located just minutes from New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Plum Orchard Lake offers kayaking, fishing, camping and hiking in a peaceful mountain setting. Recent improvements to the area are enhancing the visitor experience while preserving the natural beauty that has made the lake a favorite for generations.
