Irene Crum

Early aviation was dominated by men, only for women to remind them that the great blue skies belonged to everyone. Irene Crum grew up in Huntington longing to soar into the wild blue yonder and fulfilled her dream many times over, setting records and blazing new trails. She also served her country during World War II as a Women’s Airforce Service Pilot, known as WASPs, hence proving Shakespeare wrong:  The sting of the wasp is not in its tail but in her ability to master her craft.
