Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia.
Today is Monday, Sept. 7, 2026.
…and now for the rest of the stories…on today’s daily304.com!
#1 – From WV GAZETTE-MAIL – Get creative and make something yourself
Sometimes the best weekend project starts with a little inspiration and the right supplies.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail is highlighting local Kanawha Valley shops where makers, crafters and do-it-yourselfers can find what they need for their next creative project. Whether you’re an experienced maker or just looking for something different to try, shopping locally can turn a simple supply run into part of the experience. From Gauley Bridge to Huntington, a wide range of crafters offer goods and classes for everything from sewing to pottery.
Browse. Get inspired.
Then make something that’s completely your own.
#2 – From GENERATION WV – Building West Virginia’s next generation of leaders
Want to see who’s helping shape West Virginia’s future?
Take a look at the growing network of graduates from the Generation West Virginia Fellowship. The program equips emerging leaders with professional development, leadership skills and connections to people and communities across the Mountain State. The current Class of 2026 is moving through a nine-session schedule that includes community engagement at New River Gorge National Park, leadership and connection, public speaking in Matewan and Williamson, personal branding, inclusive mindsets, professional strengths, finance and budgeting and managing up. Graduation is scheduled for Charleston.
And those Fellows join a growing alumni network of West Virginians who have participated in previous classes.

#3 – From GREEN BANK OBSERVATORY – Go behind the scenes at Green Bank Observatory
Want to build a rocket? Explore the control room of a giant radio telescope? Maybe finish the evening looking at the stars?
You can do all three when the NSF Green Bank Observatory Open House returns on Saturday, September 19. The free event celebrates the 70th anniversary of the founding of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia. Activities include rocket building and launches, science talks, a new inflatable Star Lab planetarium, kaleidoscope building, sunspotting and solar viewing.
Visitors will also get a rare opportunity to tour the control rooms of the 85-foot Tatel Telescope and 140-foot Telescope, along with tours of the Green Bank Telescope Control Room. Space is limited and advance registration is required for the control-room tours. Weather permitting, a Star Party begins at 8:15 p.m., and a limited number of overnight camping spots are available.
