#1 – From METRO NEWS – Celebrating West Virginia’s outdoor traditions
Hunting and fishing aren’t just recreation in West Virginia. They’re part of the culture.
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources celebrates those traditions with National Hunting and Fishing Day. The annual event at Stonewall Resort State Park brings together DNR programs, outdoor organizations, vendors and families for a full day devoted to the outdoors.
The event includes shooting and archery activities, casting demonstrations, hunting dogs and demonstrations on cleaning and preparing game, a Youth Outdoor Challenge and more.
The DNR says the celebration also gives visitors a closer look at the work its employees do every day in fisheries, wildlife management, conservation and law enforcement.

#2 – From WV EXPLORER – Appalachian stories take the big screen
The Mtn Craft Film Festival returns Oct. 2-4 to the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center in Clarksburg. The festival showcases short films made by Appalachian filmmakers, shot in Appalachia or telling stories connected to the region and its heritage.
Organizers selected 39 films from 80 submissions representing a broad swath of Appalachia. Festival director Ben Berry says submissions have grown each year since the festival began in 2023.
And there’s a big change this year. Sponsors are helping eliminate the festival’s previous $20 admission charge, making the entire event free. Organizers hope that brings more people through the doors and puts larger audiences in front of Appalachian filmmakers.
The weekend also includes four workshops with film professionals, an art exhibition built around still frames from accepted films and a tribute to the late West Virginia filmmaker and educator Danny Boyd. The tribute concludes with a screening of his 1991 feature film Paradise Park.

#3 – From FEDERAL RESERVE BOARD – Small business owners, the Fed wants to hear from you
Running a small business gives you a pretty good view of what’s happening in the economy. Now the Federal Reserve wants to hear about it.
The 2026 Small Business Credit Survey is gathering input from businesses with fewer than 500 employees about their financial conditions, financing needs and experiences accessing credit. The survey takes about 10 to 12 minutes to complete, and individual responses are confidential.
Why does it matter? Results from the annual survey help policymakers, researchers, service providers and lenders better understand what small businesses are experiencing.
And that makes participation from West Virginia important. The more Mountain State businesses that respond, the better the picture of what entrepreneurs here are seeing when it comes to revenue, debt, financing and the challenges of running a business.
