#1 – From WV SECRETARY OF STATE – West Virginia is looking for its next generation of poll workers
Want to see firsthand how an election works?
West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner has a suggestion: become a poll worker.
More than 8,400 poll workers are needed to help administer West Virginia’s Nov. 3 General Election across more than 1,600 precincts. Poll workers help set up voting locations, verify voter information, issue ballots and secure election materials after the polls close. They’re also paid for both training and Election Day service.
And this year, there’s something new.
For the first time, eligible West Virginia high school juniors and seniors can serve as poll workers under legislation passed earlier this year. Students must be in good academic standing, receive parental or guardian consent and complete the required election training.
#2 – From WV EXECUTIVE – West Virginia entrepreneurs headed to Bridge Day
Bridge Day isn’t just a showcase for BASE jumpers and one incredible bridge.
This year, it’s also a showcase for West Virginia entrepreneurship.
The West Virginia Hive will feature six of its client businesses during the 46th annual Bridge Day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the New River Gorge.
Visitors can meet the entrepreneurs behind Mariposa Hollow of Glen Morgan, Hinton Outfitters of Hinton, Kraken Glass N Crafts and Sunbeams & Moonshine Creations of Talcott, The Wooly Gorge of Oak Hill and Wild & Untamed Things of Alderson.
WV Hive Regional Business Advisor Devon Fitzgerald says each business started simply with an idea. The Hive has worked alongside the entrepreneurs as they’ve built confidence, grown their businesses and turned those ideas into sustainable ventures.

#3 – From WV ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – $50 million defense manufacturing investment coming to Berkeley County
A global defense technology company is saying YES to West Virginia.
Helsing plans to invest an initial $50 million to establish advanced manufacturing operations in Berkeley County, creating at least 60 high-skilled, full-time jobs.
The new Martinsburg facility will manufacture advanced defense systems, adding to West Virginia’s growing aerospace, defense and advanced manufacturing sectors.
And workforce development is part of the plan.
West Virginia Advance and Blue Ridge Community and Technical College will develop specialized training to prepare workers for the advanced manufacturing jobs the company needs.
The investment also adds to a much bigger run of economic development announcements. Since October, the Morrisey administration says more than $12.9 billion in private-sector investments have been announced, representing more than 13,700 projected jobs across the state.
