Forestry students from the Fayette Institute of Technology spent a day working alongside the superintendent at Hawks Nest State Park, learning firsthand what it takes to manage trails and resources in West Virginia’s park system. With thousands of tourism jobs statewide and over $3 billion in annual impact, outdoor careers are thriving. The experience showed students how fulfilling and purpose-driven these roles can be in Almost Heaven.

Work continues unimpeded on Nucor’s $3.1 billion steel mill in Mason County, with key infrastructure and construction milestones still on schedule for its 2027 launch. The facility is projected to create hundreds of direct jobs and spur thousands more through economic ripple effects across the region. Ongoing collaborations with local communities aim to ensure the project delivers long-term prosperity.
